Rental fraud continues to evolve, becoming more sophisticated and harder to detect in today’s multifamily environment. In this session, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how rental fraudsters think, operate, and adapt their tactics to bypass screening processes and verification requirements.

Attendees will explore common fraud techniques found in applications, income and employment documentation, and identity representation, learning how red flags can often appear legitimate at first glance. Through real-world case examples, this webinar will examine how fraudsters adjust their strategies in response to compliance standards and advancing screening technologies, equipping multifamily professionals with practical insight to better identify risk and protect their communities.

Learning Objectives:  
  • Explain common motivations and behaviors of rental fraudsters, including how they assess risk, exploit screening gaps, and adapt strategies to gain approval.

  • Identify common rental fraud techniques and red flags within applications, income and employment documentation, and identity information that may initially appear legitimate.
  • Analyze real-world fraud scenarios to understand how fraud tactics evolve in response to verification requirements, compliance standards, and advancing screening technologies.
