This course introduces the fundamentals of electrical practices in apartment communities, covering key concepts essential for maintenance teams. Participants will learn basic electrical terminology, how electricity flows, and how it is delivered to apartment homes. The module also emphasizes electrical safety and identifying key components of an electrical system to ensure proper maintenance and operation.

At the end of this module: 
  • You will understand basic electrical terminology.
  • You will understand the movement of electrical current. 
  • You will be able to explain how electricity is delivered from a utility company to an apartment home. 
  • You will practice electrical safety. 
  • You will be able to identify basic parts of an electrical system. 

This is a hands-on class, and participants will work directly with appliances to gain practical experience.

Tom Whetsel
Instructor
Tom Whetsel has more than 30 years of experience in the maintenance and HVAC world. As Director of Maintenance, he was responsible for HI Management’s maintenance team and all related activities in their portfolio. Tom has achieved many accomplishments in the multifamily industry, including being a Refrigerant Service Engineering Society member. Tom has also earned his North American Technical Excellence Certification (NATE) and HVAC Journeyman Card and is certified in Chemical Management.
