Service Technician Program (STP) - Basics of Appliance Repair

This course covers the fundamentals of appliance repair in apartment communities, focusing on troubleshooting and maintenance of common household appliances. Participants will learn to diagnose and repair refrigerator defrost timers, locate wiring diagrams, and test and replace oven and range components. The module also covers dishwasher motor functions and common service calls, equipping maintenance teams with essential skills for effective appliance repairs.

At the end of this module: 
  • You will be able to troubleshoot faulty refrigerator defrost timers. 
  • You will be able to locate wiring diagram on appliances.
  • You will be able to test and replace oven elements. 
  • You will be able to identify types, test, and replace range elements and switches.
  • You will be able to inspect, test, and replace range receptacles. 
  • You will be able to identify types of motors, component functions, and common service calls in dishwashers. 

This is a hands-on class, and participants will work directly with appliances to gain practical experience.

Instructor
Tom Whetsel has more than 30 years of experience in the maintenance and HVAC world. As Director of Maintenance, he was responsible for HI Management’s maintenance team and all related activities in their portfolio. Tom has achieved many accomplishments in the multifamily industry, including being a Refrigerant Service Engineering Society member. Tom has also earned his North American Technical Excellence Certification (NATE) and HVAC Journeyman Card and is certified in Chemical Management.
