This session will cover four recent cases that Leslie has worked on, each involving different fair housing issues. We will discuss the facts and issues involved, the right and wrong decisions made by the housing providers, and the outcome of each complaint. This is a practical look at fair housing law to demonstrate how everyday operations decisions can result in costly complaints.  

Learning Objectives:  
  • Identify fair housing liability risks when interacting with residents and responding to resident complaints. 
  • Understand the importance of site staff seeking counsel or advice when sensitive fair housing issues are involved. 
  • Learn best practices for documenting communication with applicants and residents.

She has provided defense and consultation for her housing clients for the last ten years. Leslie conducts live training on fair housing, federal program, and landlord-tenant issues, and speaks at industry conferences regularly. She also specializes in physical accessibility in multifamily housing, including local building codes as well as ADA and FHA requirements.
