Van Rooy Takes Top Prize

Tom Parkes and Rick Stapp

First Place Team: Herb Harr and Troy Shelby
“Preparation leads to success,” according to Adam Van Rooy, Vice President of winning team Van Rooy Properties.  Rick Stapp, Regional Property Manager for Van Rooy, was “very excited to get involved.”  He said, “My thoughts were, ‘we have to get our maintenance crews involved, and we have to do this on a company level first.’   Since it is virtually impossible to allow all maintenance staff leave their properties for a full day, the decision was made to hold their own timed events and allow the maintenance people with the top combined times to compete on March 27.

The preparation paid off!  Van Rooy’s winning team of Herb Harr and Troy Shelby ultimately had one of the best times, if not the best time, in Region 3 – 5:56.30 minutes.  “I feel fortunate to have the support of Adam VanRooy and others within the organization,” said Stapp.  “We are really proud to have achieved out goal.”

Edward Rose Companies’ philosophy was very different…their strategy was, “No Practice, No Pressure, and Pure Persistence.”  The second-place team of Mike Collins and Darren Sons are multi-site support techs, which means they travel to various communities in need of their services. They had been putting in particularly long hours, and they saw

Maintenance Mania as an opportunity to have a day to just have FUN…and fun they had!   “This was the most fun I have ever had at an IAA event,” said Mike Collins.  “It was awesome - we are waiting in anticipation to see if we get to go to National!”  Barbara Wells, Regional Property Manager for Edward Rose Companies, was unable to attend on March 27, but she assured me that she would “never miss this event again!”     AIMCO’s third-place team of Adam Pruitt and Jacob Wiseman were also happy to compete in Maintenance Mania.  Their motto was simply, “Do It Fast!”  To prepare, they worked hard every day, as they always do.  “We liked it a lot, and we learned a lot,” said Adam.   According to Chuck Viale, Regional Vice President of AIMCO, “We at AIMCO recognize that our service teams are essential in attracting and retaining customers.  They work hard, and Maintenance Mania is a great way for them to both have fun and show off their skills.  We are pleased to have had three Indiana teams competing in Maintenance Mania, and are delighted that Adam and Jacob were in the top three.  Good Luck, Adam and Jacob!”  The final quote from Jacob Wiseman says it all – “Let’s do it again!”
